Cons: Some lectures are dull. Class is long and heavy emphasis on participation cuts both ways. Exams are hard but open book if you ask. Format of class could change from semester to semester so this just represents what happened in Fall 14.
If you didn't know precisely why the world is going to hell in a hay basket this class will explain in painful detail why it is and what can be done about it. If your a freshman and don't care, this class can put you to sleep but the upperclassmen are wide awake and full of opinions and ideas. Show up for every class, think about your final grade when deciding how much effort to put into your question sets, cite if you use the internet and you will get a good mark. Participation is worth 25% and attendance 15% so you were warned. Workload is light all things considered, but Cotton asks multiple questions in a single question and the longer you have been doing this at MSU the easier it is. Probably you will get the mark you deserve, some folks don't care after the first few weeks, but those that do can pick up at least 1 credit of 4.0. She's a progressive who listens to conservatives with a big Texas smile. Worth taking...
Cons: Unorganized
Julie is very passionate about the subject which, for me, makes the class interesting to go to. You cover a wide span of issues in Sustainable Agriculture. This class is required for the Sustainable Agriculture Specialization which Julie is in charge of as well.
